Activities To Do At Home If It Rains

You had everything ready to go for a walk for the weekend and it starts to rain. The children have been sad looking out the window and all plans, games and expectations have been destroyed with raindrops. However, it can be improvised! You can  organize activities to do at home with the children while it rains outside  and transform a gray day into a day of color and fun with your loved ones.

The best activities to do at home on a rainy day

Creativity and good spirits are enough to reverse the adversity that that rainy day can mean. Do not let the spirits fade and prepare your children for a good day of activities to do at home and celebrate the union of the family.

1. Take advantage of the initial plan

If you packed a picnic for a walk in the park, do it in the living room at home. The same blanket that you were going to take to the park, stretch it on the ground and enjoy the delicacies you prepared.

If the plan was a day at the beach, have your children put on their bathing suits and prepare a long bath with all their favorite toys. It will never hurt to add some fun bubbles!

2. Hands on paint

Making a handicraft is always an excellent option due to the multiple benefits it brings to children, as evidenced by this work carried out by professionals from the Institute of Humanistic and Economic Sciences, Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral.

Possibilities there are thousands, perhaps millions, on the internet, for all tastes, with a variety of materials and for all ages. It is enough to gather the materials and propose different functions to the children. Some paint, others cut. Make a home decorating craft together.

For boys who are already closer to adolescence, you can suggest that they make a mural or graffiti in their room. Dare to let them express themselves freely.

3. Board game Olympics

Board games are a classic among activities to do at home. For those days when plans to go out fall through, nothing like bingo, a card game, a puzzle or a domino.

Of course, the ideal is to buy the games of your choice little by little. There are many options for all tastes and all ages.

The older ones can help the little ones, but no one is left without playing in these Olympics. You can also make the games or play online as a family.

4. Organize a party, one of the best activities to do at home

With the food that is ready to take on the walk, organize a family party. Everyone change your clothes and be very well dressed and groomed to prepare an improvised and danceable party.

All of you will have the opportunity to be dancers and also to be the DJs . Each of the family members can select the musical pieces of their preference. You can all put on the music while the rest spend energy dancing.

5. Breakfast and sleepover

If when you wake up it rains copiously, without taking off your pajamas, organize the classic sleepover, only instead of being before going to sleep it is to have breakfast.

In this sense, it distributes the responsibilities: some help to prepare breakfast while others are in charge of selecting the films that you will see.

Make a multi-course breakfast so you can watch two or three movies while the rain stops. Sit in front of the TV to enjoy breakfast and your chosen movies. This is a classic among activities to do at home.

6. Storytelling

Pack a good helping of popcorn for a family storytelling session. One reads and the others listen. Then the roles are swapped.

You can use the books in the library or search for books that are online. Reading always sparks children’s imaginations. If they also do it out loud, they will master their reading skills. Also, even if they know how to read, they will always love that mom or dad do it again like when they were little.

7. Do experiments, one of the activities to do at home

If your children are the ones who prefer to get closer to science instead of artistic exploration with crafts, then the best thing for that rainy day will be to organize a round of home experiments.

Experiments are great because they mix fun and learning. Gather all the supplies while your kids dress up as “mad scientists.” Of course, look for appropriate options for the ages of your little ones and do not miss the opportunity to give the scientific explanation that surrounds each experiment.

8. A little physical training

You can organize a physical training session for adults and children. You don’t need to have fitness equipment at home  . Again, creativity will be your ally.

You just have to put on the right shoes and clothes and select the discipline that best suits you. A family yoga session can leave kids very relaxed, while an hour of Zumba is ideal for the more energetic. You can also improvise toning exercises and invite the children to lift packets of grains or rice.

9. Take advantage of the stillness of the rain

Daily life is often very fast-paced and you don’t always leave time to just sit down and talk. The soothing sound of the falling rain can offer you the peace and quiet you need to talk about what worries you or what your children dream about. Ask your children to help you make a snack. While you cook and wait for everything to be ready, talk with your children.

There are so many times when the stress of daily life does not let you enjoy the family togetherness, that you should not miss the wonder of a rainy day. Enjoy cooking, talking and then of course eating what you have prepared together.

In short, when it stops raining, evaluate if you can resume the initial plan, but from another perspective. If you went to the beach, then, go now to see the sunset in front of the sea.

You can also just go out to jump the puddles left by the rain. You just have to put on your rubber boots. The rain does not have to ruin the fun, and even less if you are happy being with your family. You have already seen that there are many activities to do at home!
