Shrimp Patty

  • 250 g of cleaned shrimp
  • One or two green peppers
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • One onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tomatoes
  • Chopped parsley (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (optional)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

For the shrimp patty dough

For the dough of the empanadas we give you 2 options, choose the one you like the most!

Option 1

  • 2 glasses of flour
  • 3 tablespoons of quality butter
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 100 ml glass of warm water
  • Salt and pepper

Option 2

  • A glass of cream or butter
  • ½ glass of sunflower oil
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 splash of milk

Utensils

  • A glass
  • 1 bowl
  • A frying pan, deep fryer, or oven
  • 1 slotted spoon
  • A roller
  • 1 fork

Preparation

Preparation of the dough option 1

  • First, dissolve the salt and pepper in the glass of warm water
  • Mix the flour and yeast (sifted) in a bowl together with the lard and butter.
  • Add the warm water little by little and form a mixture. Work the dough until it is compact.
  • Finally, let it rest for 30 minutes.

Preparation of the dough option 2

  • First, place the sifted flour and yeast on a table, making a volcano.
  • Put the eggs and the cream or butter in the center of the volcano.
  • Knead and add the milk that admits, until you have a compact dough that does not stick to your fingers.
  • To work it better, we advise you to put the dough on a floured table and sprinkle your hands with flour.

Preparation of the filling

  • Finely chop the onion, pepper, garlic and tomato.
  • Make a stir-fry. Start by browning the onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Then add the tomato and fry until you have a well done sauce. Add the chopped parsley and the cream. The parsley will give it a fresher touch and the cream a juicier air. Finally add the shrimp.
  • Put the dough on the floured table and knead just enough.
  • Cut into pieces the size of an egg.
  • Spread with a roller,  put the mixture, close your dumplings.
  • Fry in plenty of hot oil.
  • Put your empanadas on a plate with absorbent paper so that they lose all the oil.

Variants of the recipe:  Along with the shrimp you can add cooked crab (or, if the budget does not allow it, surimi sticks), prawns, boiled egg, cheese, chopped olives, bell peppers. ..

  • First of all, the easiest way to make them is by cutting circles with the dough.  You can do them with a glass. Then put the mixture in half on one side and close the dumpling.
  • In fact, so that it is well closed, seal them by putting a little water on all the edges with your fingers and close them by squashing the edges with a fork.
  • In addition, they are very well served on a tray covered with lettuce leaves .
  • Above all, don’t knead too much so it doesn’t get hard. Do not forget!
  • They can be eaten hot or cold. Just as rich!
  • If you want to subtract calories from your empanadas, you can make them in the oven instead of the pan. Much healthier. Fried ones should be avoided!
  • Use top quality ingredients that shows a lot in the result. Especially butter and fish, make sure they are first class.
  • If you want to reduce calories, use low- calorie butter, do not add butter, put cream with low fat content and mix it with a little milk with omega3, which is a very healthy and thick milk, similar to cream.
  • Also, if you like spices, you can add different spices to your sauce : bay leaf, cumin, oregano, mint, turmeric …
  • If this is the first time you make them, be careful with the spices, it is better to stay short.
  • Finally, when stir-frying with fish, always add the fish last to avoid hardening.
