Steps to illuminate your home in a simple way

There are a number of ways to use lamps and spotlights to create a feeling of space and light.  Next, we show you in a simple way how to combine natural and artificial light to give spaces the touch they require. To do this, don’t miss these simple steps:

1.- Calculate the amount of light needed

As a general rule, when lighting your home, keep in mind that a room requires lighting of 20 watts per square meter. This should be borne in mind especially when buying the bulbs. If you are going to put more than one, distribute the total watts among the number of bulbs you use.

Also, if you want to vary the intensity of artificial light, buy lamps that can change the intensity of the light.

2.- Consider the type of light bulb

The most ecological recommendation to light your home artificially is to look for thrifty spotlights.  These fluorescent bulbs are very durable; however, its light is very cold.

Incandescent bulbs are therefore somewhat warmer and last about 1,000 hours. Finally, for a white light, halogens can be used, but these produce more heat and last between 2,000 and 4,000 hours.

3.- Light up the living room correctly

The living room can be properly illuminated with a pendant lamp that reaches the top of the view.  Place it on top of the center table so that it illuminates the entire environment evenly. In addition, it can be complemented with an auxiliary table lamp to create more warmth when lighting your home.

Similarly, a pendant lamp on the ceiling is enough to illuminate the kitchen table .  Since the kitchen usually has slightly darker spaces, use light-colored curtains to take better advantage of natural light. Likewise, you can complete the kitchen lighting with sconces and candles.

5.- Fluorescent lights in the kitchen

This is the area where you will probably need the most lighting and where the light will stay on the longest. If you have windows, make the most of natural light. But in case there are spaces where it does not reach, use fluorescent lights, since they last longer. The 13 watts will be enough to light up your kitchen.

6.- Take care of the light in the room

The rest room needs a correct combination of ambient light and point light.  Ambient light is easily achieved by regulating the amount of natural light that filters through the curtains. For the nights, however, it is necessary to have a diffuse general light point that is not located above the bed.

Instead of putting the traditional table lamp, use sconces.  You will have more space on the tables and you will get the same lighting effect. To avoid being dazzled by the light, the trick is to direct it towards the ceiling or walls. In this way you will also be able to give greater lighting to the entire room.

7.- Light the bathroom intelligently

For a number of reasons, you have to take into account many factors when lighting your bathroom. This is the space where ambient light is least expected.  Of course, there are construction factors that involve the orientation of the house so that more light enters through the small bathroom window. But in case it is not so, we offer you some tips.

If you are installing sconces, make sure they are about 50 cm from the mirror so that the reflection does not dazzle. One option is to place them one on each side of the mirror so that they illuminate both sides of the face equally. Of course, be careful not to put lights near the shower to avoid possible accidents due to humidity.

Finally, make sure that the lights to illuminate your house happen in each section without interruption. This will give an atmosphere of uniformity to the whole house.
